Fisheries and Livestock Minister Professor Nkandu Luo is driving Government’s developmental agenda by empowering Livestock farmers in Isoka District of Muchinga Province.
Prof. Luo recently handed over the consignment of 1413 chickens and 150 goats to 48 groups of which 50 percent where women, 30percent youths and 20percent men drawn from all the 14wards in the District on Friday.
She cautioned the beneficiaries that this was a pass on programme under Enhanced smallholder livestock investment program (E-SLIP) with funding support from International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD).
Prof. Luo encouraged farmers to take livestock farming as a business as it has potential to create employment among men, women and youths.
She added that livestock development provides nutrition, food and income security at house hold level.
And speaking at the same event, Isoka District Commissioner (DC) Davis Simbule thanked Government under the leadership of His Excellence Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu for empowering Isoka community.
Mr. Simbule noted that the capital injection from Government has played a significant role in reducing extreme poverty among the rural people.
He urged all the beneficiaries to put the livestock received to good use, so that it can be passed on to others.
And a farmer representative Joy Silungwe from Sansamwenje agricultural block, thanked government for the good gesture which has come at the right time when livestock production is been intensified.-NAIS
