Government says it is fully committed to ensure that investment in smallholder livestock becomes the main driver of the country’s economic transformation agenda.
Fisheries and Livestock Permanent Secretary ANNA SONGOLO says her ministry will invest a lot of resources in smallholder livestock production as a gateway to economic empowerment for the rural majority.
Dr. SONGOLO says the government will continue to empower rural communities with livestock packages to maximize employment creation, improve incomes and reduce poverty among the Zambian people.
She says by promoting farming as a business, there is need for the farmers to take advantage of the neighboring countries and become big suppliers of various livestock products.
Dr. SONGOLO said this in a speech read on her behalf by Director of Marketing GIVEN SIMALUMBA during the handover of livestock and forage seed to various clubs and cooperatives in Chisamba district in Central province.
And speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries GIFT MAAMBO has described the empowerment of forage seed and livestock as a stepping stone to economic stability.
Mr. MAAMBO says the farmers will work together with the government to take the nation to a great level through the development of the livestock sector.
He appreciated the government for the support the farmers continue to receive through the Enhanced Smallholder Livestock Investment Programme (E-SLIP).
