Department of Veterinary decentralizes issuance of brand marks

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has decentralized the issuance of livestock brand marks.

Deputy Director of the Veterinary Department GEOFFREY MUUKA says livestock brand marks will now be obtained from the district veterinary offices following the digitalization of the issuance of the brand marks.

Dr. MUUKA says farmers will no longer require to travel to Lusaka as the process will begin and end at the district in accordance with the new regulation in the Animal Identification Act Number 28 of the Laws of Zambia.

He says under the new system brand marks will be issued within 3 days and appealed to farmers to apply online using the ministerial website page or visit the district veterinary offices.

Dr. MUUKA says the farmers should also get clearance of ownership of their livestock from the Police or the Council and register all their cattle in the ministerial database.
