Foot and Mouth Disease doses sufficient to cater for all cattle

By
Machona Kasambala
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock says it has procured enough vaccines to control the outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in the country.
Director of Veterinary Services SWITHIN KABILIKA says out of the 2.1 million doses of vaccines procured, 700 THOUSAND doses have already arrived in country and are being administered to the cattle.
Dr. KABILIKA says the remaining 1.4 million doses  of the vaccines will soon arrive in the country.
He says the total number of vaccines the ministry has procured are enough to cater for the first and  second round of vaccinations against foot and mouth disease.
Dr. KABILIKA said this in response to an appeal by Chisamba District Commissioner JOEL MBOYOMA to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to urgently send sufficient doses to his district.
Mr. MBOYOMA says his district requires more doses because it hosts a large number of commercial and small scale cattle farmers.
